The Chemical Lab of Department of Mining and Geology is equipped with following state of the art facilities:
Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer (Skyray Redlands USA)
ED XRF 3600 is a multipurpose x-ray micro fluorescence analysis system for non-destructive analysis of very small
samples in solid or liquid form.It offers the quick determination of all elements from
sodium to uranium in less than 2 minutes. Purity of any metal coming between
sodium and uranium can be determined with this instrument in PPM to 100% concentration range.
Particle Size Analyser (Sympatec - Germany)
Particle size analyser can be used to characterize various types of clays used in paper
making, potter manufacture, textile fabrics, glass making, wall paper printing, pharmaceutical, paint, alum etc. Particle size
analyser works in the range of 0.5 µm to 1750 µm both in wet and dry mode.
Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (PerkinElmer- USA)
This instrument is used for analysis of metal ions like Nickel, Silver, Zinc, Chromium,
Lead, Manganese, Titanium, Tungsten, Gold, Copper, Calcium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Bismuth, Barium, Sodium, Potassium,
Iron, Silicon, Vanadium, Lithium, Palladium, Strontium, Molybdenum
Crusher and Pulveriser
Any solid sample can be crushed and pulverized to 10-50 micrometer size.
The following sieves of ISO standard are available in the laboratory.
40 µm, 45 µm, 50 µm, 60 µm, 63 µm, 75 µm, 100 µm, 125 µm, 150 µm, 180 µm, 200 µm, 250 µm, 180 µm, 200 µm, 250
