MINING LAWS

The role to be played by the Central and State Governments in regard to mineral development has been extensively dealt in the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and rules made under the Act by the Central Government and the State Governments in their respective domains. The provisions of the Act and the Rules will be reviewed from time to time and harmonised with the policies governing industrial and socio-economic developments in the country. In exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (i) of section 15 of the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act, 1957, Central (Act 67of 1957) and all other powers enabling it in this behalf the Government of Kerala made "The Kerala Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1967" for regulating the extraction of minor minerals like granite (building stone), sand, laterite, tile/brick clay, dimension stone in the state.
