LAWS
The
role to be played by the Central and State Governments
in regard to mineral development has been extensively
dealt in the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation)
Act, 1957 and rules made under the Act by the Central
Government and the State Governments in their respective
domains. The provisions of the Act and the Rules will
be reviewed from time to time and harmonised with the
policies governing industrial and socio-economic developments
in the country. In exercise of the powers conferred
by subsection (i) of section 15 of the Mines and Minerals
(Regulation and Development) Act, 1957, Central (Act
67of 1957) and all other powers enabling it in this
behalf the Government of Kerala made "The Kerala
Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1967" for regulating
the extraction of minor minerals like granite (building
stone), sand, laterite, tile/brick clay, dimension stone
in the state.
