About Department of Mining and Geology
Department of Mining and Geology was formerly known as Department of Geology. Before its formation as a separate entity in the year 1946, it was a part of Industries Department. In 1970, Department of Geology was reorganized and was renamed as Department of Mining and Geology.
This Department is the statutory body under Industries Department of Government of Kerala for mineral exploration, prospecting, and administration. In addition, the Department carries out short-term investigations/studies as per the directives of State Government.

November 16, 2022Launch of Modules in KOMPAS Portal on 16.11.2022. Four Modules for grant of Quarrying Lease, Quarrying Permit (both quantity based and Consolidated Royalty Payment System - CRPS) and KSWIFT-KOMPAS integration software for grant of quarrying permit for ordinary earth are being launched in KOMPAS Portal. KOMPAS (Kerala Online Mining Permit Awarding Services) is the e-Governance initiative of the Department of Mining and Geology for bringing efficiency and transparency to mineral administration in the State. KOMPAS ensures citizen-centric, cost effective, and quality electronic service delivery pertaining to mines and minerals in the State
